  • Modern Family: Is Shakira Getting In On the Act?
Shakira is no actress, but maybe it's time for her to become one. She and her hips are wanted over at ABC's new hit comedy Modern Family. "I'm trying to convince her to act," M.F. star and resident MILF Sofia Vergara told me at the American Music Awards. "Hopefully, she'll say yes." Vergara liked our suggestion that... Maybe Shakira should play Vergara's sister on the show. "Why not!" Vergara said. "We'll write a character especially for her if she wants to do it." Meanwhile, Vergara and her costars are the ones wanted by another primetime star... "I'm obsessed with Modern Family," V's Morena Baccarin said. "It's my new, latest guilty pleasure. I would love all of those characters and our characters to interchange and do each other's shows. I don't know if it would be good, but..." Aliens dropping in on Modern Family may not be so far-fetched—at least according to Baccarin. "I do believe there's something more out there," she said. "We can't possibly be the only living people in the universe."
  • Selena Gomez: I'm Not Hating on Twilight!
Selena Gomez wants you to know that she never said she doesn't like Twilight. The Disney darling has been getting a lot of flack from Twi-hards because they're feeling like she dissed the world's most talked-about vampire franchise when she told Bonnie Hunt last week that she hasn't actually seen Twilight. "All I said was that I didn't watch it and I felt bad for not watching it," Selena explained to me at yesterday's American Music Awards. "But of course, now it's like, 'I don't like it.' That's not the case." And Selena is brave enough to admit that—gasp!—she hasn't read any of Stephenie Meyer's Twi-novels, either. "I feel bad," she said. "And I'm sorry if I offended anyone for that." Selena certainly wasn't the only one talking Twilight and New Moon at the AMAs. Read on for more… Kris Allen has seen Twilight. But when I asked if he's a fan, he was smart enough not to say anything that could get him into trouble. "What do you want me to say?" he said with a smile. "It's good for the kids." V star Morena Baccarin hasn't seen New Moon…yet. "I kind of want to," she said. "I'm really into vampires, but it's not really geared towards me. You know what I mean? But it's a sweet movie. The love story between the two of them is so beautiful." New Moon werewolf Alex Meraz hit the AMAs with his stunningly beautiful wife, Kim. He joked that producers are "printing money off this movie." Even so, he insists no one has officially told him Breaking Dawn is a definite. "I'm waiting by the phone," Meraz said. "I'll let you know what I find out." Can't wait to hear from ya, Alex.
  • DWTS: Who Will Take Home the Disco Ball Trophy?
It's happy feet time! With just a couple of days to go until the disco ball trophy is handed out on Dancing With the Stars, we thought we'd check in with some DWTS vets to find out what they think will go down when Mya, Donny and Kelly waltz as if their lives depended on it… Even though Melissa Joan Hart, who danced with Mark Ballas this season, thinks Mya will win, she's still not sure who she's rooting for. "Kelly is the sweetest thing on earth," the former teenage witch said at the 7th annual Lupus LA Hollywood Bag Ladies Lunch. "I've known Donny for decades…and Mya's so sweet and she's so deserving. It's tough." Professional dancer Karina Smirnoff, who was given the boot a couple of weeks ago with Aaron Carter, has been working with all the finalists on a group performance for the finale. "I don't know," she said at the Us Weekly Hot Hollywood party when asked to predict the winner. "I have a feeling it might be Donny and Kim." Former contestant and Olympic swimmer Natalie Coughlin is rooting for Kelly Osbourne. "She doesn't have any performing background or dancing background," she said. "I think she's just really transformed through this whole process and I think that's what the show is supposed to be about." No matter how much everyone seems to love Kelly, most agree that it probably should have been Joanna Krupa and not the former reality star in the finals. "It's always a mystery to me how America votes," professional hoofer Edyta Sliwinska said. "But I still think it's going to go to Mya. I think Mya should win." And as we all know by now, winning doesn't come easy. "Still in rehearsal & I've counted 43 bruises on my legs alone," Mya tweeted yesterday. "Funny thing is, I kinda like it. Feels like I've been in battle:)" Who's your pick to win? Leave your comments below. —Reporting by Dahvi Shira
  • Beating the Crap Out Of Robert Pattinson Edward
The thought of Robert Pattinson getting hurt is just too much too bear, isn't it? But that's exactly what could have happened if anything had gone wrong during his and Daniel Cudmore's big, violent fight scene in New Moon. Cudmore, the Tom Brady-esque hunkster who plays Volturi vampire Felix, said some of the stunts got a little too close for comfort when he and Pattinson went at it. "Because of my contacts, my peripheral vision was off, so there were a couple of times where I thought I was going to really hit him," Cudmore recalled at the New Moon premiere in L.A. "Luckily, I didn't." Maybe that's why Pattinson seemed a bit nervous when they first began working on the scene... "Rob hasn't done a lot of stunt work, so he was kind of apprehensive about getting into it," Cudmore said. "But the very cool thing about it is he really started to enjoy and embrace it." Christopher Heyerdahl, who plays Volturi badass Marcus, agrees. "Rob was a real pro, and he was being chucked around like a rag doll," Heyerdahl said. "It was hair-raising, but fun to watch. We got to sit back in our fancy robes and just watch." What more did we learn at the premiere earlier this week? Here are the highlights: • Pattinson would jam with costar and fellow musician Jackson Rathbone in their hotel rooms. "We'd do 'Let It Shine,' " Rathbone said. • Alex Mraz insists his wife doesn't mind all the attention he's getting for being one of the shirtless werewolf boys. "She's good," he said. "It could be worse. I could be doing porn." • Cast members do worry that fans sometimes have problems distinguishing between the actors and the characters they play. Xavier Samuel plays Riley in the just-wrapped Eclipse: "We just had a great time hatching plans to seek revenge on Bella," Samuel said of his work opposite Bryce Dallas Howard (Victoria). "I hope the fans will forgive me for attempting to kill their beloved Bella." • Nikki Reed insisted on wearing a wig for New Moon. "In Twilight, it was my real hair," she said. "But I put my foot down because I went bald after the first movie." • Sweet-faced li'l Dakota Fanning, who plays the Volturi's evil-eyed Jane, is really digging the dark side: "It's more fun to play the bad girl than the good girl."
  • Tom Ford: Why I Quit Acting
Tom Ford's got another movie up his always fashionable sleeve. But right now, he's still all about his upcoming Oscar-buzzing directorial debut, A Single Man... "I have something I'm working on but I'm not ready to talk about it," Ford told me at the GQ Men of the Year party. "I just finished [A Single Man] in August and then we went to Toronto, Venice, Tokyo and London promoting it and my head is spinning. Maybe six months after we're finished with all this I'll be able to figure out what I want to do next." Definitely not on the agenda? Reviving his attempts at an acting career. "You know, I used to act when I was younger, but I quit," Ford, 48, explained. "I did it from about 17 to 24. I was too self-conscious. I didn't like it. I wasn't in control." Spoken like a true director.
  • Uh-Oh! New Moon Should Have Been Better
Not that I'm presuming what I think about New Moon will have any effect on ticket sales, but this being the big day, I just felt I had to vent a little. Sad to say, but I had some problems with the movie. I just didn't like it as much as I wanted to. The corny dialogue irked me, Taylor Lautner's overpumped bod on the big screen is way too meathead and did Kristen Stewart actually enjoy kissing Robert Pattinson's Christmas cranberry red lips? The computer-generated werewolves were cool. But they seemed to be in the wrong movie. They were too slick for this flick. Don't worry, I do have some nice things to say... I loved the Volturi fight scene. Reminded me of 300 and the Matrix. I wanted to see more of Dakota Fanning. Her evil-eyed stare was perfectly creepy. I'm obviously not the only one who had some problems with the movie. Will any of the criticism stop New Moon form breaking box-office records? Heck, no! And it won't stop Breaking Dawn from being made either. Don't be surprised if Summit announces any minute now that the fourth Twilight movie has been given the official greenlight. For now, let the Eclipse countdown begin. Even if I didn't dig New Moon, I still can't wait to see director David Slade's take on Edward, Bella and the rest of the gang.
  • True Blood Star Camping Out for New Moon Tix?!
Alexander Skarsgård can't wait to start shooting the next season of True Blood. "It's been like five or six months since I've seen most of them," Skarsgård, who plays vampire Eric on the hit HBO series, told me at the GQ Men of the Year party. "I miss the whole cast and crew. It's sort of my family away from my family in Sweden." In the meantime, there is that other bloodsucking megahit phenomenon sweeping the universe to keep everyone company. So, will Mr. Skarsgård be checking out New Moon? "When does it open?" he said, smiling. "I'll get my sleeping bag and wait in line." (P.S.: Maybe Kate Bosworth will join him. The maybe-couple were quite adorable in their comfy coziness at the GQ party). Now back to vampires, Skarsgård isn't the only one cracking jokes—at least we think he was joking—about camping out to see the return of Robert Pattinson & Co... Southland cuteness Ben McKenzie said he hasn't gotten tickets…yet. He quipped, "Someone is in line holding my place and camping out for me." Inglourious Basterds star Eli Roth said he may see New Moon someday. "I think there are some tickets available in January," he said. "I'm making my reservations now." Rapper and now NCIS: Los Angeles star LL Cool J says he's too, well, old for the Twilight hysteria. "I think the kids are more into it than I am," he said at US Weekly's Hot Hollywood party. "I'm not, like, walking around hoping to get bit on the neck." Unlike Glee star Jenna Ushkowitz. "I love the Twilight series," she said. "I haven't read the books yet, but I did see the movie and I went to the [New Moon] premiere. It's just incredible." Karina Smirnoff hopes to kick off her Dancing With the Stars shoes sometime soon and watch Twilight before skipping ahead to New Moon. "It's on my list of things to do before Christmas," she said. "They all are mad hot. They're ripped. They're young. And they're sexy." Neil Patrick Harris also has some catching up to do. "I haven't even read the books yet," the How I Met Your Mother star said when asked if he has secured a New Moon ticket. "I should start. Apparently it's a big thing. But I just joined Twitter yesterday, and I still haven't read the last Harry Potter book, either. I'm behind on the curve."
  • Kidman Popping Up at American Music Awards
Nicole Kidman is coming to the American Music Awards. I can exclusively tell you that the Oscar-winner will be a presenter at the show on Sunday—but not for hubby Keith Urban... Ms. Kidman will join Kate Hudson to introduce the Black Eyed Peas. Why? Well, Kidman, Hudson and Fergie are three of the mega-stars we'll be seeing next month in the musical movie Nine. Kidman joins previously announced presenters Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato, Kristen Bell and Colbie Caillat. The awards broadcast live from downtown L.A. on Sunday on ABC.
  • Neil Patrick Harris: Wants 2012 Star for HIMYM
Amanda Peet may be getting a call soon from the folks over at How I Met Your Mother. Neil Patrick Harris says he's itching for the 2012 star to guest on the CBS show... "I have a bit of a boner for Amanda lately," Harris told me last night at GQ's Men of the Year party at the Chateau Marmont. "You know, she's never guest-starred on any shows before and plus, she's already worked with Jason Segel once on [the upcoming flick] Gulliver's Travels." Perhaps HIMYM producers should enlist Segel to make the first call. Harris laughed, "It's always easier for us to try and entice people who have worked with other castmembers." As for being named Trailblazer of the Year by GQ, Harris said he's, of course, honored, but especially thrilled with the photo they ran of him looking like a very dapper magician in a velvet suit (top hat and bunnies included!). "It's all magic-based and very Dean Martin-y," he said. "It's one of my favorite pictures." Fellow honorees at last night's soiree included Clint Eastwood, Tom Ford, J.J. Abrams, Kobe Bryant, Inglourious Basterds star Christoph Waltz and that hunky tall glass of vampire blood Alexander Skarsgård, along with January Jones, Shenae Grimes, Hunter Parrish, Chris O'Donnell, Eli Roth and Ben McKenzie. Sarah Silverman said she was there to hang with Hangover funnyman Zach Galifianakis. But it seems someone forgot to tell her that he was an actual honoree. "I didn't know he was on the cover because I live under a rock," Silverman said. "I was just meeting him to go to this party, but I didn't know it was a party in his honor."
  • Levi Johnston: I Don't Want to Be a Porn Star!
Despite what Sarah Palin may think, Levi Johnston insists he's not an aspiring porn star. And that's exactly why we're not going to be seeing all of Mr. Johnston's junk in Playgirl. In fact, Johnston tells me he never had plans to go full frontal because… "I'm 19," he told me at last night's GQ Men of the Year party at the Chateau Marmont. "I don't want that image. I don't want to get into porn. I don't want to get into X-rated adult videos." Johnston says he's seen some of the shots Playgirl is planning on releasing. "They turned out well," he said. "I'm happy with them." What do his friends back in Alaska think of all this? "I'm sure my friends are going to check them out and give me crap about them, but whatever," Johnston said with a shrug. "I'm having fun with all of it."
